Magic City Classic (MCC) is a HBCU rival football game between Alabama A&M University (my alma mater) and Alabama State University. Out of all of the HBCU Classic games the Magic City Classic is the largest and the most attended classic. It is called Magic City Classic because the game is played every year in Birmingham, AL “The Magic City”. Birmingham is the halfway point between Normal, AL which is the location of Alabama A&M University and Montgomery, AL which is the location of Alabama State University.
SEC has the Iron Bowl, and SWAC has the Magic City Classic, where alumni, current students and spectators from far and wide come to partake in the Classic festivities. When I was enrolled in Alabama A&M University I attended MCC a few times throughout the years during my undergraduate and graduate matriculation. Since leaving Alabama I did not get the chance to attend the MCC for two years.
Since moving to GA, I wanted to make it my mission to attend more events hosted by my alma mater with my sorority, family and friends. I planned a girls trip to go to MCC with a couple of my close line sisters for October 28, 2017. The trip was a success!
My line sister, Zy Dearmon is a travel agent, her business Road2Paradise can be found on Facebook, Road2Paradise. She booked us a nice hotel room located in downtown Birmingham which was near the stadium and all of the festivities. It was my job to pick the different food places we would eat during the weekend. For more information on good Birmingham restaurants please visit Birmingham Eats.
I would recommend everyone to attend the Magic City Classic at least once. The experience is like no other HBCU football game. If football isn’t your thing, there is a week long of events that you can attend that range from Happy Hours, Alumni Events, Pre and Post event parties, Bar Crawls, Tailgating, etc. You want to do it? MCC has it!
