Big Shake’s Hot Chicken and Fish – Minority Owned
Location: 671 Martin Rd SW, Huntsville, AL 35824
Item Ordered: Big Shake’s Combo Platter: catfish, wings, 2 sides |coleslaw and collard greens (Ordered 3 wings instead of breast quarter and catfish)
Taste: I want to be completely honest when I say I was not expecting much when I heard about this place, but let me tell you I was pleasantly surprised! The fish was fried perfectly, not too soft or hard packed with plenty of Cajun flavor. The chicken was fried perfectly, crispy on the outside but juicy and moist on the inside! I ordered the hot flavor which was not super hot, the next time I go I want to try the hotter flavor. The greens tasted like someone’s grandma was back there cooking them. I am picky about my coleslaw but I have to say it was mighty tasty. They used the right amount of cabbage to mayo ratio. I give this place 2 big thumbs up! I can’t wait to visit again.

Another Broken Egg Cafe
Location: 2722 Carl T Jones Dr SE Ste D, Huntsville, AL 35802
Item Ordered: Mardi Gras Omelette w| side of fruit
Taste: This Mardi Gras Omelette owes me nothing! Shrimp, sausage, egg, special sauce with green onions on top! So tasty! It literally taste like authentic New Orleans food. This meal usually comes with grits or potatoes but I wanted something little bit more light. The fruit was fresh, a nice medley of strawberries, blackberries, pineapples, and apples. I was happy that the fruit offered was something other than melons. LOL! I would highly suggest to visit Another Broken Egg for brunch. Any restaurant with a full bar of beverages, you can’t go wrong.

West End Grill
Location: 6610 Madison Pike Ste 109, Huntsville, AL 35806
Item Ordered: Meatloaf, Collard Greens, Hoppin Johns (dinner) | Biscuits and gravy, eggs, and hashbrowns (brunch)
Taste: Dinner first! The meatloaf was tasty, I liked the fact that it as wrapped in bacon because my mother makes hers like that (which is my favorite food btw). The hoppin johns and greens were flavorful which was a pleasant surprise. I would like to eat dinner again and I will get the same sides but I will probably get a new meat option. Brunch was good, but uneventful. I loved the hashbrown casserole and the size of the biscuits. The gravy of the biscuits could use a bit more flavor, maybe a meat of some sort like deer meat or sausage would help. They do have $3 mimosas on Saturday and Sunday! So if you want a tasty brunch with a little bubbly, this is your place.

Beignet Café
Location: 2246 Winchester Rd NE #312, Huntsville, AL 35811
Item Ordered: Dirty Grits and French Toast
Taste: The Beignet Café is a nice gem in the city of Huntsville. They have two locations one in Madison and the other in Huntsville, AL. This family owned and operated establishment claims New Orleans style menu and taste. I ordered the dirty grits which had a fried egg on top w| grilled chicken and sausage. I enjoyed the meal a lot! It was simple enough that I felt like I could make it at home but the seasonings took this the dish to the next level. The French toast was regular, there was nothing special about it. The beignet wasn’t Café Du Monde beignet. It was edible but nothing to go crazy over. All in all, they had really good food. I would go back to get another Dirty Grit bowl but other than that I would like to try something new.

Sun Café
Location: 930 Old Monrovia Rd NW, Huntsville, AL 35806
Item Ordered: Sweet Potato Roll and Shrimp Tempura
Taste: Let me start by saying that I know these are basic rolls but when I tell you that these are a couple of my favorite rolls ever! (When they are done right) Sun Café has a lunch special (M-F) where you can choose a spring roll, soup or salad with 2 sushi rolls (from a special list) for $11. This is one of my favorite meals to eat for lunch when I come home. Sushi is always a good idea and the sauces on these rolls are flavorful which brings out the natural flavor of the sushi and not overpower the dish. If you want good sushi for a good price then Sun Café is your place.

Humphrey’s Restaurant
Location: 103 Washington Street Northeast, Huntsville, AL 35801
Item Ordered: Chicken and Waffles
Taste: Everyone knows that chicken and waffles are my jam! So when I saw it on the menu you know your girl had to order it. Well…when it came to the table I was a little disappointed because it looked like they cut the waffle that you can make yourself at a hotel into 4 triangles with chicken tenders that were fried too hard and placed everything on a plate. I was confused at first but I gave it a try. The dish was okay. The tenders were cooked but they weren’t seasoned, the waffle was a little hard but edible. All in all, the dish wasn’t horrible. However if you are a chicken and waffle connoisseur you would be highly disappointed.

Pints and Pixels
Location: 3, 115 Clinton Ave East, Huntsville, AL 35801
Item Ordered: Black Bean Burger w| onion rings
Taste: I had been hearing about Pints and Pixels for a minute now so when I came home to visit I had to find out what the fuss was about. The establishment is very nice, located in the heart of downtown. I love the arcade theme! After we sat down, I already knew what I wanted to order, the meatloaf sandwich. As soon as we sat down, the bartender tell us they were sold out. So I was already annoyed. I decided to order the black bean burger instead. The burger itself was good, just a little messy. I never had a black bean burger so I had nothing to compare it to. The onion rings were really good. The meal itself was edible but nothing spectacular. I want to go again and try the meatloaf sandwich. I would recommend this place if you want to have fun at an arcade and eat a meal.

Po’boy Factory
Location: 815 Andrew Jackson Way NE, Huntsville, AL 35801
Item Ordered: Gator Basket
Taste: I have been a fan of the Po’boy Factory for yearsssss. I even came here to eat on my 15th birthday. This family owned restaurant is a staple of Huntsville offering New Orleans styled food with a mostly seafood menu. My favorite item on the menu is the combo basket where you get fried oysters, shrimp, catfish w| fries and a drink. This time I wanted to try something different so I ordered the Gator Basket. The Gator basket was tasty, but for first-timers I would probably stick to the shrimp basket, signature Jerk Chicken Po’boy, seafood platter and the combo baskets. I give this place two huge thumbs up! I love the atmosphere, the servers are super friendly and the owners are very nice too. Make sure you try their signature “Hot Damn” sauce with whatever you are eating. It tastes amazing.

Las Trojas Cantina – Minority Owned
Location: 7840 Hwy 72 W, Madison, AL 35758
Item Ordered: Fiesta Plate
Taste: Las Trojas has 2 locations in the Huntsville, AL area. Las Trojas opened in Huntsville around 2011, I remember because I had my 21st Birthday there not too long after they opened. Everything that I ever had from Las Trojas has been super tasty. I usually keep it simple, but the Fiesta Plate is my favorite dish by far. The original dish comes with broccoli but I had them substitute grilled peppers instead. This dish was filling and delicious! The perfect amount of queso, peppers, and plenty of shrimp and chicken. I would recommend this dish to everyone! I would recommend this restaurant to everyone because they have good, strong drinks, lively atmosphere and friendly staff.
